Compact Desiccant Dehumidifier Testing & Commissioning Method Statement

Below is a precise method statement for the testing and commissioning of the compact desiccant dehumidifier for any kind of project or building.

All the installation testing and commissioning works shall comply with:

Roles and Responsibilities

Project Manager will have the overall responsibility of the Project execution, quality and safety. Also he will maintain the planning progress and coordination of works with main contractor.

Mechanical Engineer / Site Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the day to day activities on site, for materials, drawings, testing & commissioning and allocation of departmental resources to work areas on the project site. The Mechanical Engineer will report to the Project Manager.

Supervisor will be directly responsible for the day-to-day job on site, for handling the technicians or any other staff assigned to his area.

QA/QC department will be overseeing all the quality requirements and quality control measures for the project in coordination with the mechanical Engineer.

Site safety officer will be responsible for the Health and Safety aspects on site as per the main contractor’s and client’s health and safety requirements.

Preparatory Requirements for Dehumidifier Testing

Make sure that the dehumidifier installation is done at the proper location and according to the approved shop drawings and manufacturer installation instructions.

Make sure that the power connection has been installed, tested and approved by the engineer before starting the dehumidifier commissioning activities.

Ensure that the desiccant rotor is secured in place.

Check the timing belt is in good contact with the timing pulley.

Make sure that the both fan motors and impellers rotate freely in the housing.

Check and ensure that the seals are in good conditions with no cracks or tears etc.

Ensure both process and reactivation filters are clean and properly secured.

Testing and Commissioning Procedure

Set the fan rotation of fan motor as anticlockwise direction when viewed from the motor side.

Set the mode of the unit start up (manual or Auto) depending upon the requirement.

Allow dehumidifier to run for a minimum of one hour at proper reactivation temperature and airflows, before starting any performance test.

Check the reactivation inlet temperature using 10-300 °C preferably dial type thermometer with 200 long stem or other suitable temperature sensor.Compact Desiccant Dehumidifier Testing & Commissioning Method Statement

Now check the reactivation outlet temperature using 0-100 °C preferably dial type thermometer or other suitable temperature sensor equipment.

Check the wet bulb and dry bulb temperature of the process inlet.

Take the reading simultaneously using two 0-50 °C  thermometer.

Take wet bulb and dry bulb temperature of the process outlet using same thermometer as in previous step.

Measure static pressure value for all the four locations i.e. process inlet, process outlet, react Inlet and react outlet.

Measure bed rotation speed by observing the time taken by the rotor to complete one rotation.

Most important:

In case of very low humidity (condition below 2 °C WB) the above procedure may be difficult to apply accurately.

For such conditions a laboratory grade dew point sensor is used to obtain accurate humidity readings.
