This document defines the methods to ensure that the works to be conducted at site are in compliance with the approved designs and approved material submittals.
The scope of this method of statement is installation of FCU at a construction project or a building.
Overall the Project Manager is responsible person for the process of implementation of the FCU installation works.
Project Engineer will be responsible for all construction activities at the site and will directly supervise through erection supervisor/skilled foremen at the work site.
Site Engineer will be responsible for arranging and controlling the inspection and testing activities in coordination with quality team.
Document applies to the inward site inspection, installation and inspection methods to be adopted for the FCU installation.

Material Delivery & Storage
The raceway system material such as FCU should be according to the site requirement and in accordance with the approved shop drawing and approved material submittal.
It should be noted that the materials used in work area are of valuable nature and that they shall be stored in a secure location, and access to these materials shall be strictly controlled.
All materials delivered to the site will be first inspected by the store in-charge / site in-charge.
Incoming materials should be checked in accordance with the site requirements, approved design and material qualification. Delivered equipment and materials must also be free from any damage caused during the delivery to site.
Delivery documentation shall be checked for completeness.
Defective or damaged materials shall either be returned to the supplier’s facility or stored on site at a suitable quarantine location.
Material to be safely transferred from store to working area.
Material to be re-inspected before installation on its final location.
Fan Coil Unit Preparatory Installation Requirements
Prior to installation of FCU the supervisor and foreman will verify and ensure that all the safety requirements have been complied with and are in place.
The supervisor will verify that all relevant approved latest revisions of shop drawings, technical submittals, inspection and test plans are in the work place for installation reference, this also includes installation procedures.
Supervisor and foreman will inspect all the materials delivered to the work place and ensure that these are the required materials and also check for damage or defect. Materials found not to be as per requirement or with damage or defect will be set aside. These will be properly labeled and returned to the warehouse.
The supervisor and foreman will examine surfaces to receive equipment for compliance with installation tolerances and other required conditions, as described in the installation requirements.
Installation will not proceed until any unsatisfactory condition have been corrected.
All installation / Construction / Testing works shall be carried out in compliance with the project mechanical specifications.
Installation of Fan Coil Units
Unless otherwise specified, all installation shall be according to the approved shop drawings and contract specifications.
Drawing plans, schematics, and diagrams indicate general location and arrangement of FCU’s.
Install FCU’s as indicated unless deviations to layout are approved on coordination drawings.
Transfer the FCU’s from the stores to the working area, taking into account the make, model, capacity, and tag number, this will ensure the correct FCU is installed at the correct location.
Install FCU’s according to manufacturer’s installation instruction and Project Specification.
Install fan coil units with proper level and plumb.
Verify the locations of the thermostats and other exposed control sensors with approved drawing and room detail before installation.
Install the devices at heights approved by the architect.
Lift the FCU in place by means of Lifter, chain block or by personnel (depending on weight, size and location).
Ensure all the vibration isolators are installed as-per the approved drawings and or the manufacture’s recommendation.
Check the level of the unit and firmly tighten the support fixtures.
Attach and fix identification labels on the equipment once the installation is completed.
Connect the ductwork to the unit cabinet using flexible connections of full size of the equipment and ductwork connections to avoid the transfer of vibration into the building structures as specified.
Connect the piping requirements as specified.
Drawings indicate the general arrangement of the piping, fittings, and specialties.
Connect the piping as follows:
Install piping adjacent to the machine to allow service and maintenance.
Connect piping to fan coil unit by using the factory hydronic piping package.
Install piping package if shipped loose.
Connect condensate drain to indirect waste pipe.
Install condensate trap of adequate depth to seal against the pressure of fan.
Install cleanouts in piping at all changes in direction.
Connect wiring as per approved shop drawing.
Quality and Inspection Requirements
All materials used on the project shall be brand new and of high quality. Obtain approval of all manufacturers from the Consultant and the Owner before ordering the equipment. “New” is defined as newly manufactured, “state of the art,” tested and proven item or equipment.
Items which have been held in stock for any extended period of time by either the manufacturer or the supplier will be rejected.
During installation, ensure that the ductworks complies with the specification requirements and notify the main contractor / consultant in advance at least 24 hours before inspection must be made.
QA/QC Engineer shall evidence the inspection of the works in progress by preparing for each completed stage or deemed appropriate area, on the “Inspection Request Form”.
The “Inspection Request Form” shall define the stage of works or area completed and shall further summarize the various installations inspected and found to be acceptable by the company.
COMPLETION OF WORK
The Engineer shall, at the time of completing the installation, inspect the works so completed and produce a list of any defects (snag list) that he may recognize any remaining rectification requirements.
Engineer shall ensure that all such defects are rectified in a timely manner.
The list of defects produced by the Engineer shall constitute evidence of the inspection of the completed installation.
Engineer shall respond in a timely manner to any preliminary snag lists that may be issued by the Client’s authorized representative prior to his final inspection of the installed FCU works.
The Engineer shall, subsequent to completion of rectifications of defects, advise by the Client’s authorized representative of the completion of the installation works.
Engineer shall ensure that all defects advised by the client’s authorized representative, when conducting his final inspection of the installed works, are rectified in a timely manner.
All duct to be labeled as per specifications / approved material submittals.
Protect all mechanical & electrical works from damage. Keep all equipment dry and clean at all times.
Protect the buildings and structures from damage during the carrying out of this work.
Health and Safety HSE Requirements
Proper safety harness to be used and secured, if required.
All personal protective equipment shall be used as appropriate according to the nature of the job.
Housekeeping shall be of good standard and all cut pipes and debris shall be removed on daily basis from working areas.
Furthermore, it is the responsibility of each individual employed in the project to take due care to ensure his own personal safety and that of other colleagues working on the project site.
